Official Course Numbers
The first four digits of each Wake County Public School System course number is the official state course number. Course descriptions and complete course numbers are listed in the WCPSS High School and Middle School Planning Guides. The High School Program Planning Guide is also available as a Word Document (1.6 MB) via the Intranet. Both the high school and middle school guides define required course parameters such as course length and prerequisites. These course numbers can be found on the CTE Course Resources page.

All of our curriculum is being remapped to Revised Bloom's Taxonomy (RBT). We've already begun to revise program area curriculum guides, pacing guides, and test banks utilizing this process.

Course Equipment Lists
Some general equipment is needed for all CTE programs. Additional equipment is needed to teach specific CTE courses.
Information about the equipment needed can be found in the North Carolina Career and Technical Education Equipment Guide, which can be downloaded from the NC DPI Equipment Guide web page.Offering a new course
To offer a course not listed in the NCDPI Programs of Study or WCPSS High School and Middle School Planning Guides requires a request for modification that must include a content outline, course blueprint, and a 100 question pre- and post-test for VoCATS. The curriculum guide must also be written in accordance with Wake County Public School System guidelines. Complete the Request to Offer Career and Technical Education Courses form (PDF 62 KB) and send it with the other materials to the appropriate Senior Administrator by November 1 for review. The course request must be filed with NCDPI by December of the year prior to the year of implementation.
Alternate course placement for OCS students
To request an alternate course placement for an OCS student, complete the Request for Alternate Course Placement for OCS Students form (Word 38 KB) and submit it to the CTE Director at least 30 days prior to the beginning of the semester.

NC Standard Course of Study
The NC Standard Course of Study Guide (PDF 12.8 MB) contains information about the CTE courses and is designed to help local school systems plan and implement their CTE program.
