CDF (Career Development Facilitator)

Certification

Most people who become a CDC (Career Development Coordinator) are required to take the CDF (Career Development Facilitator) course. The NC Department of Public Instruction has the final say in certification.

In North Carolina, this course is coordinated by the Workforce Development Training Center, a service of the North Carolina Department of Commerce. A schedule of upcoming classes can be found at the Career Development Facilitator Information web page. To sign up for a CDF class, complete the CDF Survey found on that web page. For more information, please contact Martha Barefoot.

Taking the CDF class makes you eligible for national certification. Information about this certification can be found at the Global Career Development Facilitator web site.

About the CDF Class

The course is no longer 120 hours of classroom time. Instead there are 4 days of 6 hours each in the classroom, supplemented by 62 hours of facilitated distance learning and 40 hours for completion of an independent project. All coursework is completed within 3-5 months, depending on class preference.

WCPSS will not pay the course fee or any other expenses related to this course. If you need to miss school/work to take this class, you need to work that out with your principal or supervisor.

Any questions concerning the CDF class should be directed to Martha Barefoot.

Any questions about whether you need to take this course should be directed to the WCPSS Human Resource person assigned to your building.

Documents that might be used in the CDF class.

Action Planner

The Action Planner is a way to help organize note talking and insure that the information will be used in the future. The horizontal format is the one suggested by the writers of the CDF class. The vertical version is the one Chris created for people who like things vertical.

Holland Code Activity

This is Chris' version of a CDF class activity. You might want to use this with your students.

  1. Print these posters and post them around the room.
  2. Ask the participants to go to the poster that best describes themselves.
  3. After they have chosen a group, ask each group to come up with a theme song and a slogan for their group.
  4. Have each group present.
  5. Have all participants to go to the poster that describes the people they would like to hang out with at a party.
  6. Have each group tell why they chose that group. Is this group the same or different from the last group they were in?
  7. Notice any large or small (or empty) groups.
  8. Have all go to the poster that represents the people that they would least like to hang out with at a party.
  9. Have each group tell why they chose that group. Is this group the same or different from the first group they were in?
  10. Notice any large or small (or empty) groups.
  11. Are any of these groups more valuable to society than others?
  12. What have we learned from this activity?
