The Hidden Challenge for North Carolina: Every Student Ready for Success (PDF 248 KB): INNOVATOR: A North Carolina New Schools Project Issue Brief, October 2006.
Selected lines from the article:
- The pace of this change in our public schools, however, is not keeping up with the high skill level demands of the new global, knowledge-based economy. The economic changes we are facing have uncovered a hidden challenge to our state: too many students are not graduating prepared for the economic realities they will face.
- If North Carolina wants to remain competitive in the new global, knowledge-based economy, we must do more to graduate all students prepared for postsecondary education and higher skilled jobs.
Chris' thoughts -
We need to increase the rigor in our high schools. The businesses are demanding it as well as the postsecondary schools. This article is good ammunition to fight for the proposed course of study that would apply to all students.
We need to do a better job preparing our future workers for high-skilled jobs.
This article has lots of good points and links to many of the 21st Century Skills web sites.
