Selected lines from the article:
- "Carry a toolbox instead of a briefcase." Careers in construction a good alternative to college, workshop leaders argue.
- "Usually, the four-year college track is non-negotiable. Mom said they had to go, so they go."
Chris' thoughts -
There is a big demand for construction workers, so why not let the kids choose a career doing something they like, rather than encouraging them to pick a career that society says is "better."
Why do we as a society look down our noses at blue-collar workers? Many of them are making as much, if not more, money than their white-collared counterparts. It's time to break down this wall of crazy thinking and respect ALL workers in ALL careers because all careers, especially the blue-collar jobs, contribute to society.
Where would we be without construction workers? We'd all be living in caves, and there aren't enough of those to go around.
