Description

Welcome to Mills Park Middle School, Home of the Leopards!
Mills Park Middle School opened its doors to students and families in August of 2010. Since that time, Mills Park has enjoyed tremendous success, including being recognized as an Honor School of Excellence by the state of North Carolina. Our unofficial motto is “Born in a Spirit of Collaboration”. We believe you will find it fits every aspect of our school community.

We take great pride in and responsibility for carrying out our mission statement: “The Mills Park Middle School community will collaborate to produce a positive learning environment that will facilitate the development of our students into productive citizens of the 21st century.” Students, staff, and families worked together during the 2009-2010 school year to achieve a ninety-one percent performance composite, as measured by all End-of-Grade and End-of-Course assessments.
The privilege of opening a new school presented the opportunity to make investments in technology that would allow our staff to develop students into 21st century learners. Our beautiful 100,000 square foot building, located on the western edge of Cary, is surrounded by protected areas of green space, is illuminated with natural light in each classroom, thanks to green technologies. Each teaching space is equipped with a Smart Board (instead of a traditional chalkboard) a data projector (used in conjunction with computers and other media players) and a document projector, eliminating the need for transparencies and enabling the display of three-dimensional objects.
The above technologies allow our teaching staff to create engaging learning experiences that are infused with one of the essential parts of our School Improvement Plan: developing literacy throughout all aspects of a student’s day. Our media center is the hub of literacy enrichment. Our media staff provide dynamic lessons for students on becoming proficient users of information technologies and conducting effective research in the 21st century. Through our media center specialists, professional development is also offered for teachers on information literacy through the use of mobile netbook carts, a full desktop computer lab, flip video cameras, digital photography, and student response devices.
Members of the Mills Park student body have a broad range of opportunities available to them which we believe are varied avenues the students can use to get involved in the school community. We hope these opportunities serve to create a sense of “home” and give the students pride in being a Leopard. We offer over 20 different clubs and activities beyond the regular school day in which students can take part, including the Spot Light Theatre, Student Council, National Junior Honor Society, and a variety of school-board approved athletic programs.
The Mills Park Middle School community welcomes you and invites you to join in the Spirit of Collaboration that formulates our school into such a fantastic and effective learning environment!
