Description
Wildwood Forest Elementary is located on 8401 Wild Wood Forest Drive in Raleigh. Our school was named accordingly due to the fact that we are nestled in the trees that surround our campus. The mission of our school is to provide an education focused on the academic, social, and emotional growth of every child through collaboration of the total school community.
At Wildwood Forest we place a strong emphasis on the academic performance of our students. We have incorporated the Reader's Workshop model in grades K-5 to promote consistent literacy practices across grade levels and to instill the love of reading in our students. We also have incorporated the Writer's Workshop model in grades K-5 to promote students' creative expression by modeling effective writing skills. Math and Science are taught using a hands-on approach to allow students to develop concepts through active engagement. Teachers provide differentiation in all classes to meet the needs of all students who require remediation or enrichment. We also have a block of time set in our master schedule daily in grades 1-5 for this purpose called Teamtime for reading and math remediation and/or enrichment. In addition to Art, Music, PE and Media, we have an added elective class for all grades called Global Studies with a strong emphasis on learning Spanish and exploring a variety of cultures. Students also are broadening 21st Century skills in the classroom. Most of our classrooms are equipped with Promethean ActivBoards to enrich instruction and motivate students through computer technology. Our students also attend our Technology Lab for instruction once a week.
At Wildwood Forest we promote positive behavior in our school by implementing PBIS or Positive Behavior Intervention Support. Our school recognizes students who are following school rules/procedures and who demonstrate Wolf P.R.I.D.E. This is our acronym which stands for Politeness, Respect, Integrity, Discipline, and Excellence. Students can earn Positive Office Referrals from any staff member when they demonstrate Wolf P.R.I.D.E. and a certificate is given by an administrator. The highlight for students and parents is when a phone call is made by an adminstrator to parents to inform them of this accomplishment. Our school was named a PBIS Exemplar School in 2009 for our implementation of PBIS.
Our staff created an acronym (TOGETHER)to capture our school vision:
The Total School
Openly communicates; is
Globally competitive;
Encourages all students
To be responsible and
Healthy; where
Everyone feels
Respected
We believe that TOGETHER we can accomplish anything!
