Description

"West Cary Middle School was built in 1965 and renovated in 1995 to include a 6th Grade wing, new cafeteria, auditorium, media center, and a refurbished gymnasium. In 2010, West Cary partnered with the Black Creek Watershed Association to install two campus rain gardens to help reduce pollution from water runoff into neighboring Black Creek. In 2011, the 8th grade wing and gymnasium were outfitted with new windows, doors, and classroom controlled air conditioning units. West Cary has exploded into technology with two first-rate computer labs for class use, a fully networked lab in the Media Center, two labs for CTE electives, network computers in each classroom, and wireless internet throughout the building. During the 2011-2012 school year, all West Cary classrooms will be equipped with MobiView boards and data projectors.

Mrs. Wanza Cole assumes overall responsibility for the school. She is supported by Assistant Principals, Jason Ramirez and Connie Wiggins-Price. Mrs Cole works with the 8th grade, Ms. Wiggins-Price works with 7th grade and Mr. Ramirez supervises the 6th grade.

The current enrollment is 713 students. Students are divided into two teams at each grade level. West Cary teachers work together during common subject professional learning teams (PLT) to plan their lessons and discuss ways to improve student performance. Students have numerous activities that they can participate in including athletics and cultural art functions such as band, orchestra, drama and chorus. After school clubs are also available.
