Weatherstone Elementary is located in a family neighborhood in Western Wake County. Our traditional calendar school currently serves about 650 students. As one of the advantages of having a diverse student population, we have over 15 languages represented.
We are fortunate to have a wonderfully supportive PTA that provides our school with a variety of resources from cultural arts programs to technology in the classroom.
Volunteers and staff work together to offer children a choice of extra-curricular activities, such as: chorus, jump rope club, art club, math club, and running club. This year, we will be adding a chess club.
Special night events include a Winter Program, Science Night, International Night, Math/ Technology Night, Bingo, Night of the Arts and a Talent Show.
The PTA is working in conjunction with our teachers and facilities to secure grants to create an outdoor classroom on our campus.
Classroom instruction is based on the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. This is enhanced by the use of several computer programs: Study Island, Prescriptive Instruction, Tumblebooks and Accelerated Reader. We have a computer lab as well as at four computers in each classroom. Students are exposed to art, music, physical education and Spanish specialists on a weekly basis. This school year we will also be participating in two initiatives entitled Differentiation Champions and High Expectations. Staff will be undergoing training throughout the year to integrate these practices into their classrooms.
Do you want your student to be an inventor, scientist, architect or astronaut? The foundation of learning for these high-tech jobs of tomorrow begins with four letters - S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).
The WCPSS STEM Schools Collaborative Network is a group of 17 schools, dedicated to enhanced strategic planning, professional development, programming and community advocacy around advancements in science and technology.
These schools benefit from a regional and statewide network of shared instructional opportunities and connections to local, state and national leaders focused on the STEM curriculum.
