Description
The Center for Leadership & Technology Magnet Program at Southeast Raleigh is "Creating Tomorrow's Leaders Today”. Southeast Raleigh students are developing a strong sense of citizenship and service that they will apply to the local and international communities in which they will live and work. Students in the Leadership and Technology program are preparing for future, multiple-option career-paths by using the latest technology to learn “anytime and everywhere”. The program applies current and emerging research on leadership and technology to create a learning environment that prepares all students to achieve their post-secondary goals, resulting in ever-increasing levels of achievement, extremely high college attendance rates for both majority and minority students, and millions of dollars of yearly scholarships to some of the most prestigious universities in the nation.
Located in a fast-growing residential location, all instructional settings at Southeast Raleigh-- from the computer labs to the classrooms to the dance studio to the theatre--are inviting, well maintained and resource-rich. For example, biotechnology and broadcasting labs offer the opportunity to work with sophisticated equipment that is normally found only in colleges and professional settings. Students frequently work in teams to develop the skills, knowledge, and understanding necessary for success in the workplace, with a sequence of leadership skills infused throughout the curriculum. Career experiences with the Triangle’s top employers enable them to understand the importance of careful course planning/selection and the types of skills required for success in the workplace.
Each student completes a senior project that is comprised of an essential question (may be career related), a research paper, a product that is an outgrowth of the research, and a presentation to a panel. This experience provides a culminating sense of pride and accomplishment that carries the SRMHS graduate confidently into the future, whether it is college or the workplace.
Students meet daily with their academic coach to chart academic progress, receive personal mentoring, promote academic achievement, and investigate career interests. Because coaches work with students for their entire stay at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School, they provide the support system necessary for student success.
