Description

Located in Knightdale, Lockhart Year Round operates on a multi-track year round calendar and serves approximately 675 students in Pre-K through 5th grades. Our school population is rich with diversity. Lockhart values parent, family, and community support. Lockhart has a dedicated and focused staff that works collaboratively together to provide a differentiated instructional program designed to meet the needs of our children. Our school family is committed to the belief that all children can achieve and succeed through working together as a learning community to promote student success. The school community shares a vision, high expectations, passion, and commitment towards the education and success of every child.

Lockhart Elementary is recognized as a North Carolina “School of Distinction” and a high growth school. We are committed to reaching every child that walks through our doors. High expectations and accountability exist within a collaborative environment in which our school community works together to support and improve student learning. In addition, a clear focus on instruction positively impacts our students’ performance. Our teachers work as Professional Learning Teams (PLTs) to improve student learning. The guiding principle of our PLT work is to ensure high levels of learning for all students. Data is studied and used for planning, developing instructional programs and strategies, acquiring additional resources, and designing staff development. Interventions are available to maximize student success with a wide array of support available to accelerate student learning. Monitoring determines where change is needed. School improvement is ongoing.

Lockhart offers an array of support services to our students through our Academically Gifted program, intervention program (literacy, intersession), English as a Second Language program, Special Education program, and School Counseling program. We have a Literacy and Math coach to support students and classroom instruction. Our students benefit from art, music, physical education, and technology classes. Media supports students through a combination of fixed and flexible scheduling.

Lockhart is committed to building 21st Century learning opportunities. Critical thinking skills are integrated throughout our curriculum. We are expanding student access to technology by adding document cameras, mobis, instructional response systems (clickers), interactive multimedia projectors, and wireless internet to our classrooms. As a part of our PLT work, Lockhart is providing PLT Tech Tuesdays to explore technology as an instructional tool.

Lockhart has been awarded Exemplar Status as a North Carolina PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Support) School. At Lockhart, we emphasize the importance of positive relationships and high expectations. As a school, we offer our children the support, care, confidence, and discipline necessary to foster both academic and personal success. At Lockhart Elementary, we “Believe, Achieve, and Succeed!”
