Description
Ligon Magnet Middle School offers the Gifted and Talented Magnet which is founded on the belief that all students have gifts and talents that need to be identified, valued, nurtured, and rewarded. Open to all students at Ligon, the middle school GT program offers an extensive elective program. All students choose three electives per quarter from selections in vocational, languages, visual and performing arts, technological education, physical education, or electives that focus on core subjects in greater depth.
The Academically Gifted Basics (AG Basics) Program is unique for the Wake County Public School System. AG Basics program is based on research showing that academically gifted students have exceptional potential that must recognized, nurtured, challenged, and expanded. The philosophy of the AG Basics program is implemented through curriculum and instructional strategies that provide differentiated services to match students' gifted characteristics. Instruction is accelerated in all four basic subjects: math, language arts, science, and social studies. Students are encouraged and challenged to stretch to new distances in this rigorous and intense program.
