Description
Fred J. Carnage Magnet Middle School offers a Gifted & Talented/AG Basics program with an emphasis on Math, Science, and Technology. Unique to Carnage is a state-of-the-art Eco-system Learning Center.
The Gifted and Talented Magnet is founded on the belief that all students have gifts and talents that need to be identified, valued, nurtured, and rewarded. Open to all students at Carnage, the middle school GT program offers an extensive selection of elective courses which promote choice and are designed to accomodate students' strengths, needs and interests. All students choose three elective per quarter from selections in foreign languages, visual and performing arts, technology, physical education, vocational education, language arts, math, social studies, and science.
The Academically Gifted Basics (AG Basics) Program is unique for the Wake County Public School System. The AG Basics program is based on research showing that academically gifted students have exceptional potential that must recognized, fostered, challenged, and expanded. The philosophy of the AG Basics program is implemented through curriculum and instructional strategies that provide differentiated services to match students' gifted characteristics. Instruction is accelerated in all four basic subjects: math, language arts, science, and social studies. Students are encouraged and challenged to stretch to new distances in this rigorous and intense program.
With a focus on Math, Science and Technology, CCMMS has multiple networked computers in each classroom, a wireless computer lab, and several fully equipped computer laboratory classrooms. Science instruction is often centered on an Ecosystem Learning Center, which is comprised of a greenhouse with various habitats and gardens to facilitate students' learning across the curriculum. Electives in mathematics, science, and technology provide opportunities for independent research and solving real-world problems.
AG Services
* Fred J. Carnage Middle School has one AG team at each grade level.
* Academically Gifted students receive differentiated educational services in the four core areas of language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.
* A full-time AG resource teacher coordinates the program at Fred J. Carnage Middle School, providing support and assistance to both AG teachers and their students.
