Description

Brier Creek Elementary operates on the year-round calendar. Students at the year-round schools are divided into four groups, called tracks, with each track having its own calendar. In a year-round elementary school, the traditional 180-day school year is divided into nine-week quarters with a three week break at the end of each quarter. Students are in school the same number of days as their counterparts in traditional schools; the days are simply redistributed thoughout the year. The reorganized schedule is called a 45/15 - 45 days in school, 15 days off.

Schedules are staggered so that, at any given time, three tracks are in school and one is on break. These staggered schedules make it possible for the school to serve up to thirty-three percent more students than its intended capacity.

All year-round schools offer a traditional curriculum. A traditional curriculum offers students high quality instruction, opportunities for advanced studies, creative exploration and extra-curricular activities in a nurturing educational setting.

Year-round schools provide a more continuous learning process. Since students do not have long summer vacations, major reviewing in the fall is eliminated. Students and teachers are more energized throughout the year due to regular breaks. The three-week breaks provide frequent enrichment and remedial opportunities for students during the year.

Curriculum: Year-Round

Unique Features

* Traditional 180-day school year divided into nine-week quarters with a three-week break at the end of each quarter

* Continuous cycle of learning

* Remedial and acceleration programs offered during track-out as resources permit

Important: Bus routes are subject to change based on actual student distribution, parent appeals, and other factors. The information here will be updated regularly, but updates may take several days to be reflected online. This route information last updated: 2:56 PM, Thu, Apr 3, 2014.

Stop times: Because routes change daily during the first weeks of school, specific stop times are not provided. Parents can anticipate a stop time based on the route start time, estimating 5 minutes between stops in suburban areas, and 5 to 10 minutes between stops in rural areas. The exact stop time will vary during the first weeks of school. Stop times may vary as much as 30 minutes as students settle into their routines. Students should be ready and waiting for the bus at least 10 minutes before the bus is expected to arrive.

Bus schedules: We urge parents to be patient as routes settle during the first few weeks of school. Bus routes may be extended by as much as 30 minutes as students become familiar with a new routine.

Questions?: Contact the Sanderson Transportation Office.
