Description

Briarcliff Elementary School is a traditional neighborhood school serving a diverse population of approximately 530 students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Briarcliff is located on a quiet neighborhood street, surrounded by woods which includes a nature trail. Students are assigned to self-contained classrooms with students of similar ages. Class size is around 20 for the primary classes and 26 for upper grades.

Upon entering Briarcliff, visitors will find a welcoming, yet purposeful atmosphere. We want students to enjoy their learning experiences with academic achievement our top priority. This strong commitment for optimal performance of all students is delivered by an experienced, caring staff. The mission of the school is SUCCESS – Staff United in a Caring Community Educating Students Successfully. Approximately 90% of Briarcliff students consistently score at or above grade level.

All instructional lessons are developed from the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. In addition to typical classroom experiences, students are taught each week in the special areas of art, media, music, physical education, and technology. There are two computer labs where students learn technology skills as well as develop reading and math skills on an individualized, prescriptive program in addition to four computers in each classroom. Upper grade students may also audition for performance roles in Chorus and Jump Rope Team who perform in the community. Additional leadership roles for students include Media Helpers, Safety Patrol and Student Council.
