Description
Welcome to Aversboro Elementary, a North Carolina School of Distinction, where a team approach is utilized to educate our students. Parents, teachers, students, and the involvement of the community all support our learning programs. Students are challenged, nurtured, and guided through innovative learning activities to meet their individual learning needs. All learning and instructional decisions are based on what is in the best interest of the children. We believe in instructional level reading. As a result, each student receives instruction at his or her reading level based on several methods of reading assessment. Two hours of each instructional day are devoted to sustained, uninterrupted literacy instruction. Mastering strong literacy skills is the number one indicator of student success.
Another exciting learning opportunity are enrichment clusters which are non-graded groups of students who share common interest, and come together during specially designed time blocks to pursue these interests. All teachers and staff are involved in being part of the clusters. We also have several community and parent resources involved in facilitating clusters. Everything that students do in the cluster is directed toward completing a product or delivering a service for a real-world audience. Within each cluster students assume roles that are best suited to both their interest and talents.
