K-8 Transition Timeline
(February 2000 through June 30, 2000)
The following timeline reflects activities required during the transition from the old promotion and retention policy to the revised promotion and intervention policy.

- Grades 4 & 7 students take writing test.
|
- Principal sends letter to parents regarding implications of student's score on the writing test. (Students scoring below 2.5 receive intervention strategies and retake the grade 4 writing test in grade 5 and the grade 7 writing test in grade 8.)
- Principal holds information session for staff at the school on promotion/intervention policy and ALP.
- Principal holds information session for parents at the school on promotion/intervention policy and ALP.

- E&R disseminates retest schedule for 2000-2001 to schools.
- C&I/Schools develop review committee process and training module.

- Staff administers EOG and EOC tests.
- E&R returns tests results.
|
- Staff analyzes student assessment (local and state) data.
- Staff develops Personal Education Plans (PEP) for students who will receive intervention (ALP, writing strategies, etc.) for the following school year (students who perform below proficiency on local or state assessments).

- School team reviews records of students at risk of retention.
- Principal makes recommendations for promotion, promotion with intervention or retention with intervention for each student.
- Principal notifies parents of promotion status.
- Principal verifies student participation in ALP or other interventions.
