A.

Marching Band includes majorettes and flag corps.

B.

Students in grades 9– 12 (high schools) declared ineligible under the provisions of Policy 6860 may request one appeal per school year.  Appeals approved are good for that school year.

 

1.

Parent\guardian or the student may initiate the appeal process   by making a written request to the principal of the school.

 

2.

The principal will decide and notify the parent\guardian in writing of the decision.

 

3.

If the appeal is approved the student must comply with the monitored contract as determined and outlined by the school.  Any breach of contract will be dealt with at the school and may result in immediate cancellation of the appeal approval.

 

4.

Athletes and cheerleaders whose school level appeals are denied may appeal by writing a letter and sending it to the senior administrator for athletics for a decision.

 

5.

Students participating in non-athletic activities whose school level appeals are denied may appeal by writing the board a letter and sending it to the appropriate area superintendent for a decision.

 

6.

The decision of the senior administrator for athletics or the area superintendent shall be final except where a parent/guardian demonstrates a right to appeal to the Board of Education under G.S. 115C-45(c).

C.

According to NCHSAA guidelines, an eighth grader who is overage for middle school competition shall be eligible for senior high school participation.  The students will be eligible to play only at the high school that the Office of Growth Management has them scheduled to attend for the current school year.
