Research supports our belief that decentralization of decision making produces the best decisions to improve outcomes for all students.  The Wake County Board of Education endorses the philosophy of site-based, participatory management.

Collaborative decisions should maximize strengths and allocate resources in a manner that increases every student’s success.

The Board of Education remains responsible for overall control and supervision of all matters pertaining to the public schools in Wake County; therefore, the Board has the authority to define parameters which must be followed in all schools.

The principal of each school or site is authorized to define how decisions are made at that school or site with appropriate involvement of staff, parents, other community members, and students in informed decision making.
