DESIGNATED OFFICERS

The designated officers of the Board shall be chair, vice chair, secretary, and chair pro tempore when necessary.

1200.1

Chair—The chair of the Board, in collaboration with the Superintendent and the vice chair, shall establish the agenda for board meetings.  The chair shall also preside at Board meetings, decide questions of order, appoint standing committee chair-people, appoint all ad hoc committees, be an ex-officio member of all committees, call special meetings of the Board, sign official district documents which require her/his signature, and perform all other duties prescribed by law or by action of the board.

A.

The presiding officer shall have no authority to vote except to break a tie resulting from the vote of the board members present

B.

In the event the presiding officer wishes to enter into the discussion regarding an item before the board, she/he shall yield the chair to the vice chair, present her/his views, and then resume the chair.

C.

A member shall be eligible for serving a maximum of two successive one-year terms as chair.  However, after someone else has served as chair, a former chair again shall be eligible for consideration as chair.

1200.2

Vice Chair—The vice chair shall have the duties and powers of the chair in the absence of the chair or during the disability of the chair.  The vice chair shall have such other powers and duties as the board may from time to time determine.

Secretary—The Superintendent serves as secretary of the Board. As secretary, she/he develops the agenda for meetings, sends out notices of meetings, and keeps minutes of the proceedings of the Board. She/he is the custodian of the Board's records and documents. She/he signs official district documents that require the signature of the secretary.

1200.4

Chair Pro Tempore—In the absence of both the chair and vice chair, the board may elect a chair pro tempore for that meeting only, and the appointment of such temporary officer shall be noted in the minutes. While so serving, a chair pro tempore performs the regular duties of the chair.
