RESPONSIBILITIES OF A BOARD MEMBER

Each Board member shall take an oath of office as required by law.  The duties and obligations of an individual Board member may be enumerated as follows:

1030.1

To familiarize her/himself with the North Carolina public school laws, the regulations of the State Department of Public Instruction, the Wake County Public School System policies and regulations, and best practices.

1030.2

To have a general knowledge of educational aims and objectives of the system.

1030.3

To work harmoniously with other Board members without trying either to dominate the Board or neglect her/his share of the work.

1030.4

To vote and act in the board meetings impartially for the good of the district consistent with its mission.

1030.5

To encourage active discussion and debate among Board members, but then accept the will of the majority vote in all cases and give support to the resulting policy.

1030.6

To represent the Board and the Wake County Public School System to the public in such a way as to promote both interest and support.

1030.7

To refer worthy complaints to the proper school authorities and to abstain from individual counsel and action.

1030.8

To press courageously for the financial resources that are essential for maintaining a high quality school program.
