CONVERSION, CONSOLIDATION, OR CLOSING of school facilities

7460

The Board of Education shall maintain and operate existing school facilities in a prudent and fiscally-sound manner.  Declining enrollments, population shifts, building obsolescence, or other reasons may require that the Board consider closing or consolidating school facilities or converting them for uses other than a school.  When considering action to close or consolidate schools or to convert existing school facilities to uses other than a school, the following shall apply:

7460.1

The Superintendent shall keep the Board informed of situations which may lead to the possible closing or consolidation of schools or the conversion of school facilities for non-school uses.

7460.2

Public notice of no less than thirty (30) calendar days shall be given prior to a final decision by the Board of Education.

7460.3

Citizen input shall be allowed and considered in accordance with G.S. 115C-72 through one or more public hearings in advance of a final decision by the Board of Education.
