HUNTER EDUCATION PROGRAM 5135 R&P
A teacher who wishes to offer a hunter education course
must meet the following requirements:
- The
teacher must be a certified hunter education instructor approved by the
North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission.
- The
teacher must obtain prior approval of the principal to offer the course.
- The
course may only be taught during the school day in a course that
includes hunter education as part of the Standard Course of Study (e.g.
Environmental and Natural Resources II).
- The
course may also be taught as part of an approved school-sponsored
co-curricular activity.
- The
teacher must obtain notarized written parent permission for each child who
participates in the course and related activities involving weapons
using Form 5135A, Parent Permission for Hunter Education.
- The
teacher must ensure that any student participating in activities
involving the possession, handling or use of weapons has successfully
completed the approved hunter education course.
- The
teacher must directly supervise any activities involving the possession,
handling or use of a weapon.
- The
teacher must ensure that any activities involving the possession,
handling or use of a weapon occur only at shooting ranges approved by
Wake County Public School System Office of Risk Management and that all
applicable safety rules outlined in the North Carolina Hunter Education
Shooting Tournament Official Rules are followed.
