R&P 5100 CURRICULUM MANAGEMENT
R&P 5100 A.
Planned and Written Curriculum 1. Curriculum
design – The curriculum is a standards-based curriculum that spirals from Pre-K to expectations for
graduation and is aligned to the state Standard
Course of Study. 2. Vertical and horizontal goal alignment a. Vertical
alignment of the curriculum ensures that students build on their learning as they articulate
through grade levels. Concepts introduced at one grade level may be
included at a higher level; the emphasis of the learning is at a higher
level of thinking or includes additional information. b. Horizontal alignment of the curriculum
ensures that students experience a curriculum that is common
to all classrooms of the same grade level or content area and
supports the intended curriculum. 3. All courses offered within the WCPSS will
be supported by a deeply aligned written curriculum. 4. Curriculum and Instruction staff will
collaborate with key stakeholders to establish a common format for Learning
and Teaching Guides that integrate technology throughout the learning
process. 5. Professional development plan – The WCPSS
professional development plan supports continuous improvement of
individuals and learning teams. Professional development includes
opportunities to prepare all staff to teach the designed curriculum and principals
to monitor the curriculum. 6. Program adoption – Programs adopted and
implemented within the WCPSS will comply with Board Policy 5600. B. Taught Curriculum 1. Research-based teaching strategies – Curriculum
and Instruction staff will identify research-based teaching
strategies that effectively support the delivery of the curriculum. The
Curriculum Management Plan will include a process to review strategies to ensure
deep alignment of the written, tested, and taught curriculum. 2. All teachers will teach the written
curriculum. 3. All Learning and Teaching Guides will
include strategies for integrating 21st Century skills, as outlined by the Partnership
for 21st Century Skills, into the curriculum in order to ensure
that each student is prepared for life in the 21st Century. 4. Professional development opportunities
will include effective, research-based instructional strategies. C. Evaluated Curriculum 1. Review cycle – The WCPSS Curriculum
Management Plan will include a process
for review of curriculum documents, assessments, and research-based instructional
strategies. 2. Curriculum and Instruction staff will
conduct periodic curriculum evaluations to determine the effectiveness of the
curriculum and instructional program. Data used for analysis will include,
but will not be limited to, student growth, student achievement, and student
enrollment patterns. D. Assessed Curriculum 1. Formative assessments – Working within
professional learning teams, teachers will create common formative
assessments to inform instruction. Formative
assessment data will be used at regular intervals of a student’s progress in order to help improve the
student’s performance and to inform the teacher’s
practice. Analysis of summative assessment data will be used to inform both
instructional practice and curriculum focus. 2. District staff will provide support for
and monitor the taught curriculum to ensure alignment with the written and
tested curriculum. Summative assessment data will inform district
staff of this deep alignment.
