ESTABLISHMENT OF SCHOOL CALENDAR |
5030 |
The Superintendent shall make a
recommendation to the board annually regarding establishment of the school
calendar. |
5030.1 |
Insofar as possible, the calendar
shall be responsive to the instructional and recreational needs of teachers,
students, and parents. |
5030.2 |
The calendar shall provide for one
hundred eighty (180) full days of instruction, and allowances consistent with
state law shall be included for making up days that might be needed because
of inclement weather or other unforeseen occurrences that might make it
necessary to temporarily close a school or schools. |
5030.3 |
The calendar shall be designed on a nine-weeks grading period of approximately nine weeks
basis, and consideration shall be given for appropriate timing of
parent-teacher conferences and grade reporting. |
5030.4 |
The spring break for students
following the traditional calendar should be scheduled in conjunction with
the end of the third nine-weeks grading period unless other features of the
calendar make such scheduling inappropriate. |
5030.5 |
The calendar shall make provisions
for the in-service education needs of the school system. |
5030.6 |
A calendar for summer sessions
shall be approved by the board. |
5030.7 |
The administration shall present
drafts of traditional and year-round school calendars to the board by
December 31 prior to the beginning of each school year. |
5030.8 |
The system may operate special
purpose schools or sessions or pilot programs beyond the regularly-scheduled
school year, provided the programs are legally organized and funded and have
specific approval of the board. |
5030.9 |
Schools considering conversion to
a calendar other than the traditional calendar shall adhere to the parameters
for voluntary calendar conversion as listed in “Guidelines For Developing
School Improvement Plans.” |
