In accordance with the regulations established by
the United States Department of Labor pursuant to the Occupational Safety and
Health Act and the North Carolina Occupational Safety and Health Bloodborne Pathogens Standard, the Wake County Public
School System shall have in effect a Bloodborne
Pathogens Exposure Control Plan. The
plan shall be designed to eliminate or minimize employee exposure to
potentially infectious bodily fluids and bodily secretions. |
|||
|
2332.1 |
For employees with occupational exposure to blood
and bodily fluids, the plan shall include appropriate training, provision of
Hepatitis B vaccinations, and specific work practice precautions to minimize
contact with potentially infectious bodily fluids. |
||
|
2332.2 |
Employees with "occupational exposure"
shall refer to those employees who are reasonably anticipated to come into
contact with blood and bodily fluids in the normal performance of their
assigned work duties. Employees, who
while at work, may perform "good Samaritan" acts that are not
within their required job duties (such as assisting a coworker or a student
with a nosebleed or rendering first aid to an accident victim) shall not be
considered to have occupational exposure. |
||
|
2332.3 |
A copy of the Bloodborne
Pathogens Exposure Control Plan shall be accessible to all employees, and a
copy shall be maintained in each school unit or department. The plan shall be updated as required by
state and federal law. |
||
|
2332.4 |
It shall be the duty of each employee to
familiarize himself or herself with the provisions of the Bloodborne
Pathogens Exposure Control Plan and to comply with the provisions
thereof. Failure to comply with the
plan shall be cause for disciplinary action. |
