STUDENT ASSIGNMENT

This transfer application period is only valid for transfers for the upcoming (2013-14) school year. To request a transfer for the current (2012-13) school year, you must complete a transfer request.

The First Transfer application period allows families to request assignment:

  • to their calendar option school with transportation provided
  • to another school with no transportation provided
  • to their base school
  • to their feeder-pattern middle or high school that was given during the Choice Plan

The First Transfer application includes two applications in one. Families are allowed to submit a calendar application only, a transfer application only, or both. If both applications are submitted, the calendar application is considered first and takes priority. This transfer request period has ended.

Application options

  • Elementary students: Families can rank one or both of their calendar option schools, and up to three other schools to request a transfer.  This means that families can rank as few as one school and as many as five schools.
  • Middle school students: Families can rank their calendar option school, and up to three schools to request a transfer.  This means that families can rank as few as one school and as many as four schools.
  • High schools students: Families can rank up to three schools to request a transfer.  For families whose base school is Southeast Raleigh High, they can also rank their calendar option school.
  • Requesting your base school: Families can continue to request assignment to their base school, although placement will not be guaranteed. Families whose base school is a magnet school will have that school as one of their choices.
  • Transfering to a magnet school with sibling priority: Families who have a student already attending a magnet school will have that magnet school as one of their choices.
  • Transfering to a magnet school without sibling priority: Families cannot apply to a magnet school during this period unless there is a sibling already participating in the Magnet program.

Year-round track assignments

Track assignments are made with consideration to parent input, siblings, grade level scheduling, and mandatory class size limits.  All track assignments are made at the school. Families applying for a year-round school will be asked to rank the four tracks when they submit their online application.

All effort will be made to honor an existing track when a student moves from one year-round school to another year-round school, but this is not guaranteed. Notification of track change requests for existing students at a school and track assignments for students new to the school will be given mid-March. All track assignments are subject to change based on enrollment variations.  Families should work with the school staff at your school to discuss track assignments.

Application process

The online application will be available after noon on February 18. If parents submitted a Base Declaration or a Magnet application, they may use the same account to submit their First Transfer application. There is no paper application for this process. There is no appeal process during this application period.

Application decisions

Notifications will be distributed on the afternoon of March 8. Please note that if a student's application is accepted, they will be re-assigned to their new school and their former school assignment will be relinquished.  Students will not have an opportunity to decline their new assignment. There is no guarantee that students will be able to return to their previous school.
