Student Assignment

Your assigned school

In Wake County, students are assigned to a base school based on their residential address. Use the address lookup tool to view your base school. In some cases, a school may be 'capped', meaning the school has reached the maximum number of students. For the upcoming school year (2013-14), the following schools are capped:

• Capped Elementary Schools: Brooks, Cedar Fork, Farmington Wds, Fuller, Hilburn Drive (K-5), Holly Grove, Hunter, Joyner, Lacy, Mills Park, Underwood, Walnut Creek and Wiley.
• Capped High Schools: Apex High, Garner High, Heritage High, Holly Springs High

If a student's assigned school is 'capped', they will be offered a choice of overflow schools. Contact Student Assignment or your base school with questions.

Request a transfer

Families will receive Official Notice of School Assignment for 2013-14 on May 1, 2013. Families may request a transfer from their 2013-14 school assignment to another school during this Final Transfer Application period if the make their request within 10 business days of receiving your official notification of assignment. Transfers are only granted for certain circumstances, as outlined in Board Policy 6203.

Check wait list accounts

The second wait list review will be held in Mid-June with updated selection results posted to parent online accounts June 24.

(June 18: Currently, all parent accounts are frozen while wait lists are processed. Assignment information available in parent accounts may be inaccurate. Please wait until the wait lists are processed to view your final assignment.)

All wait lists will be dissolved after the second round of wait list processing.

Please note that if a student's application is accepted, they will be re-assigned to their new school and their former school assignment will be relinquished. Students will not have an opportunity to decline their new assignment. There is no guarantee that students will be able to return to their previous school.
