Goal 2008: WCPSS is committed to academic excellence. By 2008, 95 percent of students in grades 3 through 12 will be at or above grade level as measured by the State of North Carolina End-of-Grade or Course tests, and all student groups will demonstrate high growth.

BOARD RECEIVES REPORT ON PLAN 2000 AND PLAN 2004
At its May 3 meeting, the Board of Education received a status report on
the PLAN 2000 School Construction Program and the PLAN 2004 School Construction
Program.
PLAN 2000: This program included 14 new schools. All eight elementary schools, along with four middle schools and one high school have been constructed. The eight elementary schools include Ballentine, Carpenter, Cedar Fork, Forestville Road, Heritage, Highcroft, Holly Ridge and Turner Creek. The middle schools include Heritage, Holly Ridge, Reedy Creek and Salem and the high school is Knightdale. Hedingham Middle School, the special/optional school will be completed this year.
Thirty of PLAN 2000's 35 major renovations have been completed. The five remaining include one under construction: Northwoods Elementary, and four in design: Enloe High and Knightdale Elementary, Swift Creek Elementary and Longview School.
PLAN 2004: This program included 14 new schools. Two of these projects are under construction and eight are in design. Under construction are Holly Springs High and Panther Creek High. In design are Barwell Road Elementary, Harris Creek Elementary, Brier Creek Elementary, Wakelon Elementary and E18 in Holly Springs. PLAN 2004 includes 16 major renovation projects
SCHOOL OPENINGS: In 2005 one elementary (Cedar Fork) and three modular elementary schools (Forest Pines, Harris Creek and Wakelon will open.
In 2006, three elementary schools, one middle school and two high schools will open. The elementary schools include Barwell Road, Brier Creek and Carpenter. Students from Harris Creek Elementary will move into their permanent facility. The middle school is East Cary. The high schools include Panther Creek and Holly Springs.
In 2007, four elementary schools will open including Sanford Creek, E18 in Holly Springs, E12 at Forest Pines and E13 in Garner. Students at Forest Pines Elementary and Wakelon Elementary will move into their permanent facilities. In 2008, two elementary schools will open.

BOARD AWARDS CONTRACT FOR CARY HIGH ADDITIONS
At its May 3 meeting, the Board of Education awarded a single-prime contract
to J.M. Thompson Company in the amount of $23,292,440 for the construction
of the additions and renovations at Cary High. This project is part of the
PLAN 2000 School Building Program and the PLAN 2004 School Building Program.
BOARD AWARDS CONTRACT FOR HEDINGHAM MIDDLE
At its May 3 meeting, the Board of Education awarded a single-prime contract
to Riley Contracting Group, Inc. in the amount of $2,698,500 for the construction
of Hedingham Middle School. This will convert an existing office building
for use as a special alternative middle school to open during 2005-06. This
project is part of the PLAN 2000 School Building Program and the PLAN 2004
School Building Program.
BOARD APPROVES DEMOLITION AT LONGVIEW SCHOOL
At its May 3 meeting, the Board of Education awarded a single-prime contract
to Beau Chene Company, LLC, in the amount of $268,000 for building demolition
at Longview School. This project is part of the PLAN 2000 School Building
Program.
BOARD APPROVES DESIGN FOR SANFORD CREEK ELEMENTARY
At its May 3 meeting, the Board of Education approved the design documents
prepared by LS3P Boney for the construction of Sanford Elementary School
(E-14), a new 655-student capacity elementary school located in Rolesville.
This project is part of the PLAN 2004 School Building Program.
BOARD NAMES DESIGN CONSULTANT FOR E13
At its May 3 meeting, the Board of Education named Pearce, Brinkley, Cease
and Lee, PA as the architects to design E13, a new 768-student elementary
school located at the intersection of Jones Sausage and Radio Station Roads
in Garner. Pearce, Brinkley, Cease and Lee, PA will reuse the prototype
design used at Turner Creek Road Elementary and Highcroft Drive Elementary.
This is the eighth reuse of this prototype, a savings of time and money
for the school system. This project is part of the PLAN 2004 School Building
Program.
BOARD APPROVES PURCHASE OF ADDITIONAL MOBILE CLASSROOMS
At its May 3 meeting, the Board of Education approved Change Order No.2
to its existing contract with Modular Solutions, Inc. This change order,
in the amount of $885,810.45, is for the purchase of 21 additional mobile
classroom units. These are part of the 146 additional classroom units being
added across the school system as part of the 2005 Crowding Solution.
BOARD APPROVES MILLBROOK ELEMENTARY ROOF REPLACEMENT
At its May 3 meeting, the Board of Education awarded a single prime contract
to Jedco Construction, Inc., in the amount of $339,900 for the partial roof
replacement at Millbrook Elementary School. This project is part of the
PLAN 2004 School Building Program.
BOARD APPROVES ADDITION OF BLEACHERS AT APEX HIGH
At its May 3 meeting, the Board of Education awarded a single prime contract
to D.A. Thomas Construction Co., Inc. in the amount of $135,000 for the
construction of 458 additional bleacher seats at the Apex High stadium.
This is the maximum number of seats that can be added to the home side,
although this will still be less than the program standard of 2,000. This
project is funded from the Phase IIIB School Construction Program, as well
as funds from the Apex High Booster Club and PTA Matching Grant Program.
