Poling welcomes Retired Vice Admiral and Mrs. Emmett Tidd

November 1, 2000 - Thank you Vice Admiral and Mrs. Tidd for the "outpouring" of support and encouragement you have given our Lessons of Vietnam and U.S. History classes at Millbrook High School, and me, their teacher.

Teacher Lindy Poling presents Retired Vice Admiral Emmett Tidd with a plaque.

It's not easy to know all the things we really need to know about our history, and yes, about the events that took place in Vietnam and America in the 60's and early 70's, through books alone....You are walking encyclopedias of knowledge on the history of the Vietnam War -- your words, your thoughts, your stories, and YES, you're BEING HERE AT Millbrook, in person -- have profoundly influenced us and our desire to truly understand the lessons of that critical historical era.

At the beginning of this year, at the dawn of a new century and a new millennium, a great Admiral, Admiral Elmo Russell Zumwalt, Jr. passed away.

You were such a constant in his life, and you have now become such a constant in our lives. It is really marvelous to know that our Chief Naval Officer, Admiral Zumwalt, made the education of our youth one of his "final watches."

So many very exciting things are happening with the Lessons of Vietnam class at Millbrook because of caring adults and leaders in our society who have much to share with us. Please accept this award from us Vice Admiral and Mrs. Tidd, as our way of thanking your for your life's work to help make our world a safer, more peaceful place to live in.

And, we wish to thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for seeing us and our education as "Mission Critical."
