Enloe teacher performs in Raleigh Little Theatre production
October 4, 2004 - Teaching high school English is Craig Goheen' s day job, but after hours six days a week he pursues his other love- drama.
Goheen brings 30 years of experience acting, directing and writing to his first role in Raleigh Little Theatre s (RLT) upcoming production of the 1936 screwball comedy You Can t Take it With You.
He plays Paul Sycamore, the wildly eccentric patriarch of the even crazier Sycamore family who believes you should only do what makes you happy. Goheen's character is not your traditional father figure. He happily builds fireworks in the basement and plays with Erector sets.
The cast is wonderful, they are all very professional. It has been a fun experience, said Goheen of his time spent at RLT.
Goheen, new to the Raleigh area, grew up in Washington, D.C. and studied English education at the University of Virginia. Since then Goheen has lived in West Virginia and Carteret County, North Carolina and spent his time teaching, acting, directing and writing. He also spent five years as a freelance writer for a baseball magazine.
He also is the author and director of The Pringle Treat, a historical play about the first white settlers in West Virginia. While living on a farm in West Virginia, he also performed as a stand-up comic and with a local improv group. In 2004, Goheen published his first novel, Blood of the Earth. Goheen calls the work a political thriller and love story set in the jungles of Mexico. He traveled to Mexico several times to do research for the book.
After school, Goheen stays busy grading papers and rehearsing lines. He lives in Knightdale with his wife, who works for the Department of Public Instruction, and their dog and two cats. Goheen said he hopes to work with RLT in the future.
