Apex Elementary Certified by PTA as School Of Excellence

October 25, 2004 - Apex Elementary School is the first WCPSS school to be recognized by the National PTA as a Parent Involvement School of Excellence. Schools that earn this certification from the PTA must complete a self-examination that looks at the way the school communicates, provides parenting discussions, involves parents in student learning and collaborates with the community. In addition, the school must have a plan for parent involvement in school decision-making and advocacy.

National PTA's certification recognizes schools that uphold the highest standards in parent involvement. Apex Elementary is one of only 14 schools in the entire state to be honored in this way for involving parents.

"This certification is the result of parents, staff and community members working together for the common goal of helping children succeed and is an honor that is to be shared by all" said Denise Lah, Apex Elementary PTA member and team coordinator.

As part of the certification process, Apex Elementary formed a team consisting of the principal, a teacher, parents and a community representative; completed an assessment; developed a Parent Involvement Plan and applied for the Certification of Excellence.

"Parental involvement is an integral part of all children's education. Parent involvement sends the message to our children that we care- about them and their school." said Kellie Totten, Apex Elementary PTA President.

Apex Elementary PTA is a leader in reminding the community of its obligations to children and is a driving force in student achievement, a relevant resource for parents, and a strong advocate in the community. Membership in the Apex Elementary PTA is open to anyone who is concerned with the education, health and welfare of children.
