“Anytime you can have an event that involves a combination of PTA parents, the school and business community sponsors, its very powerful,” said Swift Creek principal Jim Argent. “Lowe’s Home Improvement came to us this summer. They have a grant funded program called Lowe's Cares where their workers volunteer to come in and beautify different organizations and they chose Swift Creek Elementary.”
Swift Creek sits on a compact campus at the intersection of Tryon and Yates Mill roads. The area where the amphitheater is being built is between the school’s gym and classroom building on a slight slope.
The project will provide ten benches in two rows of five each providing seating for 80 to 100 students and a small stage. It will provide an outdoor learning area where students can stage performances or teachers can hold class.
“This will be an awesome addition to our campus,” said Argent. “The materials are at cost. The labor is all free. We are maximizing everything thanks to the kindness of our business partner.”
The Swift Creek PTA helped pay for some materials. Employees from the local Lowe’s are volunteering their time to provide the labor. The Lowe’s Heroes fund is paying for materials and supplies. Work on the project is expected to be completed shortly after the first of the year.
