Teachers, Schools Recognized by Wake County PTA Council
May 5, 2006 - Three Wake County teachers were honored by the Wake County PTA Council as the 50,000 member organization installed new officers and recognized school employees, volunteers and programs during its annual awards program at Sanderson High School last night.Cindy Smith was sworn in as the new president of the Wake County PTA Council. Smith is a registered nurse and longtime PTA volunteer.
Lisa Spalding of Green Hope Elementary was named Elementary School Principal Of The Year. Kenneth Branch of Centennial Campus Middle was named Middle School Principal Of The Year. Branch has recently changed jobs, becoming the WCPSS Senior Administrator for Magnet Schools.
Joan Small of Green Hope Elementary was named Elementary School Teacher Of The Year. Mollie Dibble of Fuquay-Varina Middle was named Middle School Teacher Of The Year. Susan Lobasso of Cary High was named High School Teacher Of The Year.
Coreen Levy of Leesville Road Elementary was named Teacher Assistant of the Year.
Mary Hunter Martin of Partnership Elementary, Julia Hendricks of Holly Ridge Middle and Sue Glover of Broughton High received the Outstanding Staff Member Award.
Partnership Elementary and Broughton High were recognized for Outstanding Parent Involvement.
Penny Road Elementary, East Millbrook Middle and Broughton High were honored as Outstanding PTA Units. Cindy Jones of Lead Mine Elementary, Lisa Greene of Carnage Middle and Cindy Jones of Broughton High were named Outstanding PTA Volunteers.
The Outstanding PTA Leader Award was presented to Carla Smith of Douglas Elementary, Lisa Yelmini of Fuquay-Varina Middle and Anna Ball Hodge of Broughton High.
The Outstanding Business Partner Award was presented to the Rotary Club of West Raleigh for its work with Lacy Elementary, Spring Café for its work with Fuquay-Varina Middle and Mike Abbot of First Service Carolina for his work with Broughton High.
Morrisville Elementary, Fuquay-Varina Middle and Broughton High received the Outstanding Character Education Award. Morrisville Elementary and Broughton High received the Outstanding Health and Safety Award.
Hilburn Drive Elementary, East Millbrook Middle and Broughton High received the Outstanding PTA Communication Award.
