Jim Bazluki Named 2005 Athletic Trainer of the Year

April 11, 2005 - Jim Bazluki, Cary High School's head athletic trainer, has been named the N.C. Athletic Trainers Association's 2005 Secondary School Athletic Trainer of the Year. The NCATA recognized Bazluki at its annual meeting and award luncheon in Charlotte, March 12.

The yearly award, which was established in 1984 and voted on by peers and colleagues, recognizes outstanding service and commitment by an individual to the profession and association.

Bazluki has served NCATA in various capacities, including working on committees, the board of directors and executive board. He was elected vice president of the NCATA during the 2005 annual meeting. Bazluki and the board of directors were recognized at half-court during the recent NBA Charlotte Bobcats vs. LA Lakers game in Charlotte.

This is Bazluki's second year on the Cary High staff and his 14th as a certified athletic trainer. In addition to overseeing all facets of the school's athletic training operation, Bazluki is directly responsible for the day-to-day care, injury prevention and rehabilitation efforts for the entire athletic program.

Prior to joining Cary High in 2003, he spent one year in the Durham Public School System and eight years at East Carolina University as assistant athletic trainer. Bazluki also held positions with the Carolina Panthers, physical therapy clinics and physician groups.

The NCATA named Bazluki the 1997 College/University Athletic Trainer of the Year while he was at ECU. This marks the first time a member of the association has been named Athletic Trainer of the Year twice in the 31-year history of the North Carolina Athletic Trainers Association.

The Charlotte native graduated from ECU in 1990 and earned a master's degree from ECU in 1993. He is currently pursuing his doctorate from N.C. State University.

The NCATA is a member of the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainers Association (District III) and the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA).
