WCPSS Fall 2004 Sports and Athletic Accomplishments
Dec. 7, 2004Girls' Tennis
- Broughton HS finished 2nd in the state. Broughton has been to the finals 10 years in a row, winning 8 state championships.
Girls' Golf
- Leesville - State Champions - Coach Curt Miller
- Jennifer O' Connor won the state individual championship.
- Apex - Finished 7th
- Fuquay-Varina - Finished 8th
- Millbrook - Finished 10th
Girls' Cross Country
- Green Hope - Regional Champion - finished 12th in the state
- Broughton - finished 3rd in the state
- Apex - finished 5th in the state
- Enloe - finished 11th in the state
Boys' Cross Country
- Green Hope - Regional Champion - finished 9th in the state
- Broughton - Finished 6th in the state
- Sandy Roberts (Broughton) finished 1st in the state
- Apex - Finished 10th in the state
Volleyball
- Athens Drive - Finished in the top 8 in the state
Boys' Soccer
- Leesville - State Champions - Coach Jeff Costa
- Green Hope - Finished in the top 4 in the state losing to Leesville in the semifinals
- Cary - Finished in the top 8 in the state losing to Leesville in the quarterfinals
Football
- Green Hope HS - Finished in the top 4 in the state
Cheerleading
- Junior Varsity - Millbrook finished 4th, Southeast 5th, and Cary 9th
- Southeast finished 2nd in the Medium Varsity Division
- Middle Creek 2nd, Sanderson 3rd, Millbrook 4th, and Broughton 5th finished in the top five of the Super Varsity Division
NCHSAA High School Sportsmanship Awards (Number of Years Consecutively)
- Apex, Cary (2nd), East Wake, Fuquay-Varina (4th), Leesville (2nd), Middle Creek (2nd), Millbrook, Southeast (2nd), Wakefield and Wake Forest-Rolesville (2nd) had ejection-free years.
Middle School Sportsmanship Awards
- Davis Drive, Fuquay-Varina, Lufkin, Reedy Creek (Southern Conference), Martin, Ligon, Daniels (Central Conference), and Leesville, Heritage, East Wake, West Millbrook (Northern Conference) were fall sports season sportsmanship award winners. These schools will display Sportsmanship Banners during the winter sports season.
Other Awards
- NCHSAA Regional Meeting Awards were given to Garner HS Doc Harrell (AD of the Year) and Nelson Smith (Male Coach of the Year).
- Former Administrator for Athletics and Driver Education Joel Long will be inducted into the North Carolina Athletic Directors Association Hall of Fame on March 22nd at the NCADA Annual Meeting.
