2004-2005 Winter Sports and Athletic Accomplishments

Girls' Basketball
· Broughton HS won the NCHSAA 4A State Championship after winning the Sectionals and Eastern Regional - Coach Dayna Jordan
· Southeast Raleigh won their Sectional, but lost to Broughton in the Eastern Regional finals (top 4 finish in the state).

Boys' Basketball
· Millbrook won their Sectional, but lost to Westover HS in the quarterfinals (top 8 finish in the state).

Wrestling
· Individual Team Championships - Cary HS won the NCHSAA 4A State Championship after winning the Eastern Regional) - Coach Jerry Winterton
· Team Championships - Cary HS won the NCHSAA 4A State Championship after winning the Eastern Regional Championship. Coach Jerry Winterton (12th State Championship won at Cary HS since 1981)

Girls' Swimming
· Enloe won the Eastern Regional championship for the 7th straight year - finished 6th in the state championships.
· Athens Drive finished 2nd in the Eastern Regional and 4th in the state championships.
· Apex finished 5th in the state championships.

Boys' Swimming
· Enloe won the NCHSAA 4A State Championship and Eastern Regional for the seventh straight year. Coach Vickie Peoples
· Leesville finished 2nd in the regionals and 8th in the state championships.
· Cary won the Central Regional and finished 3rd in the state championships.

Gymnastics
· Information has not been confirmed, but will be provided when received.

Indoor Track
· Southeast Raleigh finished 3rd in the girls at the state championships.
· Millbrook and Athens Drive finished tied for 6th in the girls state championships.

Middle School Sportsmanship Awards
· Apex, Davis Drive, and Salem (Southern Conference), West Millbrook, Heritage, and East Wake (Northern Conference) and Carroll, Carnage, and Martin (Central Conference) won the sportsmanship awards for the Winter Sports Season. Sportsmanship banners will be displayed at these schools.

Other Awards
· The National Soccer Coaches Association of America named Green Hope HS soccer player Stephen Bickford the nation's best high school soccer player. Bickford graduated from Green Hope in December and is attending the University of North Carolina.
· Former Administrator for Athletics and Driver Education Joel Long will be inducted into the North Carolina Athletic Directors' Association Hall of Fame on March 22nd at the NCADA Annual Meeting.
· Kathy Stefanou (former Millbrook HS volleyball coach) will be inducted into the NCHSAA Hall of Fame on Saturday April 16th.
