Year-round schools started the year July 11. Modified-calendar schools started July 25. Traditional calendar schools will begin Thursday, August 25.

WCPSS Meets 90 percent of NCLB Targets - July 18, 2005 - The Wake County Public School System met 90 percent of the school district's target levels for Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) under the federal "No Child Left Behind Law" (NCLB).

Wake Students Continue High Level of Performance on 2005 Tests - July 7, 2005 - For the third year in a row, more than 90 percent of Wake County elementary and middle school students scored at Levels III or IV on state End-of-Grade tests and 83 percent of high school students scored at Levels III or IV on state End-of-Course tests.

Major Renovation and school improvement projects

Major Renovations were completed at Northwoods Elementary, Broughton High, Daniels Middle, Douglas Elementary, Ligon Middle, Longview, Millbrook High and North Garner Middle. Systemwide improvements were completed at Apex Elementary, Apex High Aversboro Elementary, Brassfield Elementary, Broughton High, East Wake Middle, Fox Road Elementary, Fuquay-Varina Elementary, Fuquay-Varina High, Green Elementary, Lead Mine Elementary, Leesville Road Middle, Penny Road Elementary, Powell Elementary, Root Elementary and Vandora Springs Elementary.
