School Board to Hold Public Hearing on Student Assignment Proposal

Sept. 29, 2011 - Parents and citizens may comment on the draft student assignment proposal at a public hearing called by the Wake County Board of Education on Thursday, October 13, at 5:00 p.m. at Broughton High School.

"During the process of developing this proposal, we've had 19 public information meetings, more than 2,700 online comments, and more than 21,000 participants in a test of an early student assignment concept," said Superintendent Tony Tata. "Public feedback has been an important factor in improving the proposal. We are presenting it to the Board of Education at our October 4 meeting, and citizens will then have the opportunity to voice their thoughts directly to the Board on October 13."

A vote on adopting the proposal is scheduled for Oct. 18.

Citizens may sign up to speak online at www.wcpss.net beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 8. Citizens may also sign up to speak at the door from 4:00 to 4:50 p.m. on the day of the public hearing. Speakers will have two minutes for their comments.

"We appreciate the extensive public participation over the last seven months, and we know the Board values it as well," said Tata. "We look forward to continuing to hear from families as we further refine the plan."
