March 22, 2011 – Families who submitted an application to attend one of Wake County’s magnet schools or to request a specific calendar will be able to learn the status of their applications on Thursday, March 24. The information will be available on the Wake County Public School System’s website at http://wwwgis2.wcpss.net/selections.

Families will be asked to log on and enter their confirmation number to receive the results of their application. Families received a confirmation screen when they submitted their online application and were asked to print a copy for their records. If they are unable to locate their confirmation number, families may call the Department of Growth and Planning at 919-850-1921 for assistance logging on.

Families whose applications were accepted should visit that school’s website where they will find a welcome letter from the principal with details about the school and information regarding their next steps. They do not need to take further action. If they choose to decline the offer and opt, instead, to stay at their base school or current school, they will need to select “decline” on the website by April 5.

Families whose applications were not selected will remain in the application pool and may be selected as vacancies become available between now and the start of the 2011-12 school year. If a family’s application is selected during this time period, they will be notified by mail prior to the start of school. There is no appeal process for families whose applications were not selected.

On May 13, all WCPSS families will receive notice of their school assignment for the upcoming school year. Existing WCPSS students will be notified by letters sent home in their backpacks. New students who have pre-registered will be notified by mail.

After receipt of their official school assignment, parents may request a transfer by submitting a Request for Transfer form between May 13 and June 1 to the Office of Growth Management. Any request submitted within ten days of their official notice of school assignment and denied by staff may be appealed to the Board of Education within five days of receipt of the notice of denial.
