Graduation Ceremonies Underway for 22 High Schools

June 7, 2011 - Graduation ceremonies are underway for 22 Wake County Public School System high schools. More than 8,800 students will graduate this year.

Twenty high schools will hold graduation ceremonies between Thursday, June 9 and Sunday, June 12. Many of the ceremonies will be held at the Raleigh Convention Center and Memorial Auditorium at the Progress Energy Center for the Arts.

You should expect traffic to be congested and parking to be in high demand with seven ceremonies on Friday, June 10 and seven ceremonies on Saturday, June 11 at the Raleigh Convention Center and Memorial Auditorium at the Progress Energy Center for the Arts.

Persons attending the ceremonies should give themselves plenty of time to get to parking and then to the facility for the ceremony.

Friday, June 10

Graduation ceremonies are scheduled in the Raleigh Convention Center for:
8 a.m. for Millbrook Magnet High
12 p.m. for Wake Forest-Rolesville High
4 p.m. for Sanderson High
8 p.m. for Wakefield High

Across the street at Memorial Auditorium at the Progress Energy Center for the Arts graduation ceremonies are scheduled for:
11 a.m. for Middle Creek High
3 p.m. for Cary High
7 p.m. for East Wake high schools

Saturday, June 11

Graduation ceremonies are scheduled in the Raleigh Convention Center for:
8 a.m. for Enloe Magnet High
12 p.m. for Green Hope High
4 p.m. for Panther Creek High
8 p.m. for Leesville Road High

Across the street at Memorial Auditorium at the Progress Energy Center for the Arts graduation ceremonies are scheduled for:
8:30 a.m. for Knightdale High
12:30 p.m. for Holly Springs High
4:30 p.m. for Athens Drive High

Sunday, June 12

Graduation ceremonies are scheduled in the Raleigh Convention Center for:
8 a.m. for Fuquay Varina High
4 p.m. for Apex High
8 p.m. for Garner Magnet High

School administrators and students have practiced the events and have scheduled them to provide proper time to recognize students and stay on schedule for the next ceremony.

Several schools will hold ceremonies at other locations. Broughton High will continue its tradition of holding graduation in the school’s Holiday Gymnasium. It’s planned for 10 a.m., Friday, June 10. Longview School will hold ceremonies at the school at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 9. Phillips High will hold ceremonies at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 10 in Meymandi Hall.

Guidelines for the general public used in recent years will remain in effect. No one without an admission ticket will be admitted to a graduation ceremony. No packages or balloons will be permitted. WCPSS Security and Raleigh Police officers will be on hand for the commencement exercises at the Raleigh Civic Center and Meymandi Hall.

The Wake Early College of Health and Sciences and Southeast Raleigh High held ceremonies in May.
