Trial Simulation of WCPSS Assignment Proposal Extended to June 24

June 17, 2011 – Superintendent Tony Tata today announced he is extending the online simulation of the proposed Community-Based Choice Plan, also known as the Blue Plan, until midnight on June 24.

The school system is also holding a number of community outreach events on Sunday, June 19 and Monday June 20 to help increase participation in the simulation.

"We have had a great response to the 'test drive' of the Blue Plan, and we’re hoping that by extending the trial period we can get even more data that will help us better understand what parents would choose in such a plan," Tata said.

Tata is making a direct appeal to Wake County parents. "If you haven't participated in the test drive of the Blue plan at our Web site, please do so. If you have participated, please ask your friends and neighbors. Every parent has a voice, and the more voices we hear, the better we can make your choices in the future," Tata said.

The trial simulation is accessible from the school system's Web site at www.wcpss.net.

To encourage participation among families in areas with limited Internet access, WCPSS is holding Community Outreach Events Sunday and Monday. Computers will be provided along with assistance in navigating the online simulation.

Boys Club and Girls Club, 605 N. Raleigh Blvd. (10:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m.)

This test run gauges how parents might select their children’s school, in the event a choice-based system is used for assigning students in the 2012-13 school year. The choices produced under the simulation are samples only and will not affect students’ assignments for next year.

The other leading proposal, the Base Schools Achievement Plan, known as the Green Plan, is a base assignment model. Families are currently offered a base school assignment along with calendar and magnet options, therefore a “test-drive” is not needed.
