Online Magnet School Selection Period Begins Monday, 1 p.m.
Dec. 1, 2011 – Beginning at 1 p.m. on Mon., Dec. 5, Wake County parents can participate in the online magnet selection process for the 2012-13 school year.
The magnet selection period will run from 1 p.m. on Dec. 5 through the end of the day on Dec. 19. The selection period is part of the Wake County Public School System’s new school choice student assignment process. Parents interested in magnet programs may log into the student assignment website, assignment.wcpss.net, during this time period to choose from a range of magnet schools based on their home address.
Families may make their choices for magnet schools at any time during the selection period; those who do so at the end of the time period will receive the same consideration as those who do so earlier.
Parents will be notified between Dec. 20 and Jan. 13 of whether their child was selected for one of their magnet choices. The first proximity school choice selection period will follow from Jan. 17 through Feb. 24.
WCPSS's magnet program objectives are to foster healthy schools throughout the county by using choice to help:
- reduce high concentrations of poverty and support diverse populations,
- maximize use of school facilities, and
- provide expanded educational opportunities.
