WCPSS 2010-11 Graduation Rate Jumps Above 80 Percent
August 4, 2011 – The 2011 graduation rate was 80.4 percent for the Wake County Public School System, according to the four-year cohort graduation rate data released by the state today. This is the school district’s highest rate since the 82.6 percent rate in 2006.

The state defines the 2010-11 four-year cohort graduation rate as the percentage of students who entered the 9th grade for the first time during the 2007-08 school year and who earned a diploma by June of 2011. Students who transfer into a school on grade level are added to that school’s cohort, and those who transfer out are removed. Students who earn a certificate of completion are in the cohort, but are not counted as graduates.
Among WCPSS subgroups, Hispanic students’ 2011 graduation rate increased by 10.5 percentage points to 64.7 percent and black students’ rate increased 3.3 percentage points to 67.2 percent compared with 2010 rates.
For 2010-11, female students had a higher graduation rate than male students, by 7.8 percentage points.
WCPSS High Schools
Four WCPSS high schools had 2011 graduation rates above 90 percent. The schools are Apex High, Green Hope High, Panther Creek High and the Wake Early College for Health and Sciences.
Thirteen WCPSS high schools had 2011 graduation rates above 80 percent and below 90 percent. The schools are Athens Drive High, Broughton High, Cary High, East Wake School of Engineering Systems, East Wake School of Health Sciences, Enloe Magnet High, Fuquay-Varina High, Holly Springs High, Leesville Road High, Middle Creek High, Millbrook Magnet High, Wake Forest-Rolesville High and Wakefield High.
Other NC Urban Districts
Wake County’s 80.4 percent four-year cohort graduation rate was higher than other North Carolina urban districts, except for Guilford County. The Guilford rate was 83.1 percent.
