Superintendent Tony Tata Launches Online Chats to Engage Community
April 1, 2011 -- WCPSS Superintendent Tony Tata held his first "Virtual Town Hall" meeting this morning. The online chat sessions are part of Tata's efforts to engage Wake County parents and citizens in ongoing conversations about the Wake County Public School System.
Tata opened the meeting by asking viewers to share their thoughts and concerns. "I'm hoping that this chat will augment the many visits to schools, churches, chambers of commerce, etc. where I get such valuable feedback. I hope to receive good questions, and I will do my best to answer each of them to your satisfaction," Tata wrote.
Over the course of the hour-long chat, more than 300 people logged on. You can view a reply of the chat session by clicking the Virtual Town Halls link in the lower right hand corner of the Superintendent's page.
The WCPSS Communications Department will maintain transcripts of each monthly Virtual Town Hall on the website. The WCPSS website's front page (www.wcpss.net) will display a link to the chat session 15 minutes prior to its start and begin accepting questions at that time. Tata will answer as many questions as time allows.
Tata asked viewers how often they would like the Virtual Town Hall meetings to happen. He'll use that feedback in developing a schedule for the chat sessions.
"This is just a first step in using technology more effectively to communicate with the community, especially parents and students," said Tata.
