Community Workshops to Discuss Third Year of Multi-Year Assignment Plan
November 4, 2010 - The Wake County Public School System announced a series of community workshops to inform and involve the public in the 2011-12 student assignment process.The community workshops will present background information on student assignment and will focus on multiple considerations such as:
- Assigning students to the new Walnut Creek Elementary for 2011-12
- Addressing overcrowding concerns for schools projected to be at or above 112 percent crowding
- Approved Traditional Calendar Application changes for 2011-12
- Other Concerns.
The community workshops will provide families the opportunity to hear the most current information on assignment plans for 2011-12, the third year of the Multi-Year Assignment Plan as amended in April 2010.
Three two-hour workshops will be held this month:
- November 15, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm, at Millbrook Magnet High at 2201 Spring Forest Road in Raleigh
- November 16, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm, at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High at 2600 Rock Quarry Road in Raleigh
- November 18, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm, at Cary High at 638 Walnut Street in Cary
People may register online to participate in the community workshops . There will be on-site registration the night of the event beginning at 6 p.m.
School administrators from the Growth and Planning Department will provide a brief introduction to 2011-12 school assignment issues. Participants and administrators will then take part in small group discussions. The discussions will be focused on the assignment plan for Walnut Creek Elementary; overcrowding concerns for schools projected to be at or above 112 percent crowding; and Traditional Calendar Application changes for 2011-12.
The information gathered by WCPSS Growth and Planning staff will be used in developing a proposal to be presented to the Wake County Board of Education for review and approval.
