Fourth Community Workshop Added to Discuss 2011-12 Assignments
November 12, 2010 - The Wake County Public School System has added a fourth community workshop at Garner High to inform and involve the public in the 2011-12 student assignment process.
The fourth community workshop was added after discussions about the workshops with the school board earlier this week.
The community workshops will be focused on four considerations:
- Assigning students to the new Walnut Creek Elementary for 2011-12
- Addressing overcrowding concerns for schools projected to be at or above 112 percent crowding
- Approved Traditional Calendar Application changes for 2011-12
- Other Concerns.
The community workshops will provide families the opportunity to hear the most current information on assignment plans for 2011-12, the third year of the Multi-Year Assignment Plan as amended in April 2010.
The two-hour workshops will be held this month:
- November 15, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm, at Millbrook Magnet High at 2201 Spring Forest Road in Raleigh
- November 16, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm, at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High at 2600 Rock Quarry Road in Raleigh
- November 18, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm, at Cary High at 638 Walnut Street in Cary
- November 22, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm, at Garner High at 2101 Spring Drive in Garner
People may register online to participate in the community workshops. There will be on-site registration the night of the event beginning at 6 p.m. The online sign up mechanism for the Garner workshop will be available Monday morning, November 15.
School administrators will provide a brief introduction to 2011-12 school assignment issues and then participants will take part in small group discussions hosted by WCPSS Growth and Planning staff. The discussions will be focused on the assignment plan for Walnut Creek Elementary; overcrowding concerns for schools projected to be at or above 112 percent crowding; and Traditional Calendar Application changes for 2011-12.
The information gathered by WCPSS Growth and Planning staff will be used in developing a proposal to be presented to the Wake County Board of Education for review and approval.
