Wake County Pre-K Programs to hold Application events for school-year 2010-11
January 26, 2010 - In February, Wake County SmartStart will accept applications for Wake County’s public Pre-K programs, including the More at Four Program, a publicly funded pre-kindergarten program that provides quality experiences which enhance kindergarten readiness. To qualify for the programs, Wake County families will demonstrate economic and/or educational need. Children must be 4 years of age on or before August 31, 2010. Families should be prepared to provide transportation to and from the programs.Essential pre-kindergarten programming provides quality early education experiences for children 4 years of age. |
This pre-kindergarten initiative is designed to prepare 4-year-olds for school with a curriculum that focuses on the enhancement of each child’s emotional-social, physical and cognitive abilities through developmentally appropriate approaches to learning.
“To better serve 4-year-olds and their families, we collaborate with Wake County Public Schools, Telamon Head Start and Wake County Human Services’ Subsidy Office to offer a single pre-k application process for a variety of Pre-K programs,” said Elizabeth Santana, Director of Wake County SmartStart Quality Enhancement and More at Four. “It is our goal, in this process to serve our families more efficiently through the coordination of placements and waiting lists.”

Only complete applications are accepted. Families must provide a copy of the child’s birth certificate, proof of residence in Wake County (utility bill, lease or mortgage contract), and proof of annual income (tax forms, check stub indicating hourly wage and number of hours worked).
