Sixty WCPSS Teachers Earn National Board Re-Certification
December 20, 2010 – Sixty Wake County Public School System educators earned re-certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards this year.
Two WCPSS schools – Leesville Road High and Heritage Middle - had four teachers earn re-certification this year, the most of any WCPSS school. Enloe Magnet High and Lake Myra Elementary and Wakefield Elementary each had three teachers renew their National Board Certification.
WCPSS had 32 elementary, 13 middle and 15 high school teachers renew this year.
After 10 years, National Board certified teachers must submit a portfolio of their accomplishments as teacher leaders to maintain the distinction. Teachers typically begin the renewal process in the eighth year of certification. As in the initial certification, impact on student achievement remains the focus. Renewal candidates complete the National Board’s Profile of Professional Growth submitting videos demonstrating their teaching and providing evidence of how they have positively impacted student achievement since their initial certification.
