12 WCPSS Students Named Achievement Scholarship Semifinalists
October 1, 2009 - Twelve students from eight Wake County Public School System high schools have been recognized as semifinalists in the 46th annual Achievement Scholarship competition. The 12 students were among more than 1,600 Black American high school seniors recognized nationally.The students include:

ENLOE HIGH: Felicia C. Blow, Aza P. Green, Matthew S. Jones, Anthony O. Ogunlanoh, Amber N. Skinner
GREEN HOPE HIGH: Olivia S. Hart
LEESVILLE ROAD HIGH: Ashlyn N. Creech
MIDDLE CREEK HIGH: Lauren A. Bullock
MILLBROOK HIGH: Kaosisochukw O. Uzokwe
PANTHER CREEK HIGH: Latina R. Green
These scholastically talented students have an opportunity to continue in the competition for approximately 800 Achievement Scholarship awards worth some $2.6 million. Approximately 1,300 semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing in the 2010 National Achievement Program and some 800 will become Achievement Scholar awardees.
To advance to the finalist level in the competition, semifinalists must present a record of high academic performance throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by the school principal and earn SAT scores that confirm the Preliminary SAT/ National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test performance. The semifinalist and a school official must complete a scholarship application in which they provide information about the student's participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities and educational goals.
More than 160,000 high school juniors from all parts of the U.S. requested consideration in the 2010 National Achievement program when they took the 2008 Preliminary SAT/ National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
