H1N1 - Confirmed Case at Laurel Park Elementary School
June 4, 2009 - Wake County Human Services has notified school officials there is a second confirmed case of H1N1 in a Wake County Public School system student at Laurel Park Elementary School.
Yesterday, Public Health officials notified WCPSS of a confirmed case of H1N1 at Reedy Creek Middle School. In both cases, health officials have conducted case interviews, identified and notified all the close contacts that may have been exposed to H1N1 to date. We are limited in the specifics we can share regarding the case, but can say that the student is recovering and isolated at home.
You can help by doing the following:
- Parents and guardians should monitor their school-aged children, and faculty and staff should self-monitor.
- Students, faculty and staff who appear to have a flu-like illness at arrival or who become ill during the day should be kept separate from other students and sent home.
- If you develop or your child develops flu-like symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, etc.), please stay at home, except to seek medical care. Please contact your medical provider if you are sick.
- Sick students should not attend alternative childcare or congregate in other locations.
- Practice good health manners such as washing your hands with soap and water often or using hand sanitizer and covering your mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.
Additional information regarding the H1N1 virus can be found at here or at the site for the Centers for Disease Control.
We will keep you informed if the status of H1N1 in the school population changes.
